  1. Human Resources for Health action framework The First Conference of the Asia-Pacific Action Alliance on Human Resources for Health (AAAH) 28-31 October 2006, Thailand

Background • A technical consultation was held in Washington, DC, on December 14-15, 2005, to develop an HRH Action Framework to support "an effective and sustainable health workforce” • Sponsored by WHO and USAID, the consultation consisted of multilateral and bilateral agencies, donors, partner countries, NGOs and members of the academic community. • WHO included the framework in The World Health Report 2006: Working together for health.

  3. March to October 2006 a steering group: development through an inclusive process refinement (framework + its components) building a rich base of tools, guidelines and other resources. HRH ACTION FRAMEWORK DEVELOPED November'06 to January'07 more tools and resource material will be added as they become available, will include also useful documented country experiences ongoing and dynamic process. Value of the HRH Framework • Many of the existing tools and guidelines are focused on describing the problem; others focus on helping to find solutions • This framework is: • useful to carry out an assessment and develop a comprehensive country strategy, • to develop these strategies into an organized and systematic implementation plan that will draw in other sectors • and to be used as a ‘filter’ to refine current HRH strategies.

Links to priority programs, Frequently asked questions, Tools, Country experience, etc. The goal is to keep the framework simply on its face, but also to be responsive to questions people have. e.g. how does this framework help me with my programme? Web product still under development to include….

  14. Practical benefits • Resources are organized according to agreed upon HRH framework (may be obvious but...); • Ultimately, will have: • a short description of a resource when clicked; • resources organized and cross-referenced by area of intervention.
