  1. Reception

  2. The role of the receptionist • Making appointments • Attending to clients • Selling products • Handling money • Communication • Stock taking • Ordering

  3. Personal Presentation • It is essential that the receptionist's appearance is of a very high standard. Most clients will think that the way the receptionist appears reflects the standard of the salon. So if the staff are sloppy and untidy in appearance, then a client may think that all staff are not skilled at carrying out beauty treatments.

  4. Receptionist Appearance • Wear smart clothes • Uniform should be freshly laundered • Hair must be clean and neat • Light attractive make-up can be worn –no heavy make-up should be worn • Nails to be well manicured –no chipped varnish • Breath should be fresh • Jewellery should be simple

  5. Welcoming Clients • Make eye contact with clients without staring and keep your facial expressions open- don’t frown, roll your eyes or glare. • Don't chat to other members of staff while a client is with you, unless it is to answer an enquiry about their appointment or treatment. Remember to keep information confidential • Vary the tone of your voice so that you don’t sound bored and disinterested. Ask helpful questions to show interest in your client • Be caring and discreet, remember –many clients feel quite nervous about visiting a beauty salon

  6. Professional Attitude • If you want to be part of the beauty industry, you need to show many positive qualities. Sometimes it is not easy to act positively, especially if you are not feeling great-you may have had a sleepless night or a row with a friend. How ever, there is no excuse for anything less than a professional attitude. As a beauty salon receptionist, you are on show to every client that visits the salon. You must therefore be able to carry out duties to high a standard, no matter how you feel.
