  1. Elluminate Live! Tips on being a Participant

In this lesson you will learn how to participate in Elluminate by: • Joining the session • Setting up your audio • Sending a message by typing into the chat box • Talk by using the microphone • Raising your hand • Express emotions using icons • Viewing video • Using the Whiteboard • Saving the session's whiteboard presentation • Exiting the session

  3. Join the Session • To join, go to the Breakout Sessions area of the Conference Center. • Click on the appropriate day to see the sessions for that day. To join the session of your choice, click on the link labelled “Session Link” which appears UNDER the title for your session • Once the interface loads, type in your name beginning with First Name, then Last Name. For example, “Mickey Mouse.”

  5. Audio Set Up (if you haven’t already tested your audio) • Audio Set Up Utility • Tools  Audio  Audio Setup Wizard • Here You Can Adjust Your Speaker and Microphone Settings Make sure that the slide is within the green range

  6. Using the Chat Window If you do not have a microphone, you can communicate by typing in the chat window. Questions and comments during presentations should be typed • You can Send a Text Message • To the whole room • To a specific person • Type in this box and click the Send button

  7. Using the Microphone Only one person can talk at a time! ONLY click this button when you have been recognized to speak. Be sure to release the microphone by clicking again on the image, so that others can speak! Click this button to talk

  8. More on Using the Microphone This is how the audio icon looks when YOU are using the microphone. The audio icon is grayed out when SOMEONE ELSE is using the microphone. Therefore, you can't press the icon and use the mic. When NO ONE is using the icon, it appears visible and clickable, so you can click on the icon to use the mic.

  9. Raising Your Hand A number will appear in this column, in the order that you raised your hand. ONLY raise your hand when the speaker asks for questions. Click this button to Raise/Lower Hand

  10. Expressing Emotions Using Icons The corresponding icon will appear in this column next to the person expressing the emoticon. Express approval through laughter and applause. Express confusion Express disapproval through thumbs down

  11. Microphone Icon Lit: This person is speaking Hi Icon Lit: This person is typing

  12. Viewing Video Note: Viewing video may be significantly slow for low bandwidth connections. Participants will not broadcast their video given the large numbers. Only speakers may use their video during a session. Change the Quality of the Video You Receive

  14. Polling • Types • Yes/No • Multiple Choice • Slowdown/Speedup Class Pace • Responses will appear in the Participants window if the moderator has selected to show them

  15. Saving the Presentation Click on the disk icon to save the whiteboard presentation Select "Whiteboard PDF" to be able to view in Adobe Acrobat

  16. Exiting the Room Click here to stay in the session but notify others that you may have temporarily walked away from your computer. Click here to leave the session completely
