  1. Chapter 2 COMPUTER HARDWARE

  2. In the end of the lesson, student should be able to.. • Describe the main components of a computer system, hardware. • Provide examples of hardware device that handle input, output, motherboard and storage task. • differentiate type of input device and output device.

  3. 1) Introduction of computer • What is computer? A programmable machine. The two principal of characteristic of a computer are: 1)It responds to a specific set of instructions in a well-defined manner. 2)It can execute a prerecorded list of instructions (a program). • Evolution of computer (http://www.computerhistory.org/timeline/)

  4. Type of computer • Computers can be generally classified by size and power as follows, though there is considerable overlap: 1) personal computer 2) minicomputer 3) mainframe 4) supercomputer

  5. Computer system Collection of related component that have been designed to work together. Their perform four basic operations: input, output, processing and storage.

  6. Process Input Output Storage Overview of computer system

  7. Input • What is input? • Any data or instructions you enter into the memory of the computer • Users can input data and instructions in a variety of ways. • Example (keyboard, mouse etc)

  8. Overview of computer system Process Input Output Storage

  9. Process • The execution of arithmetic or comparison operation on data. • The devices is motherboard: A large circuit board containing the computer central processing unit, support chips, random access memory, and expansion slots. Also called a main board.

  10. A “motherboard” A RAM chip Expansion slots Pins to attach to motherboard

  11. Overview of computer system Process Input Output Storage

  12. The result of processing information that enable people to see, hear, and even feel that result. Example of device is: 1.monitor 2.printer 3.speaker/earphone Output

  13. Overview of computer system Process Input Output Storage

  14. Storage • Storage that the computer saves the result of processing to used again later. • Storage devices hold all of the program and data that the computer uses. • Example of devices is: a hard disk, a floppy disk, CD ROM or DVD ROM.

  15. Activities

  16. Activities.. Group 1. Present about the computer system. Group 2. Present the differences of input devices and output devices.
