  2. Electrons orbit the atom in different energy levels Principal Energy Levels 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Etc. Within these principal energy levels there are other energy levels called sublevels.

When an electron orbits the nucleus of an atom, it orbits in a principal energy level and a certain sublevel (within the principal energy level) For example, the single electron in the hydrogen atom is found in the first energylevel. And would have to be in the s sublevel. So the electron configuration for hydrogen is written as 1s1.

  5. Sublevel type # of electrons principal energy level H = 1s1 This is the electron configuration of hydrogen

  6. Electron configuration is writing down where all the electrons are in an atom….. Both the principal energy level and sublevel.

  7. To be able to do this, you need to memorize four regions of the periodic table.
