  17. Regulation on Safety of the Public to the exposure with ionizing radiation sources” No .481 date 25.07.2012 RADIOACTIVE WASTE article 8. The licensees shall: (a) ensure that the activity and volume of any radioactive waste that results from the sources for which they are responsible be kept to the minimum practicable, and the waste be managed, collected, treated, conditioned, transported, stored and disposed of, in accordance with the Regulation of the waste management; and (b) segregate, and treat separately if appropriate, different types of radioactive waste where warranted by differences in factors such as radionuclide content, half-life, concentration, volume and physical and chemical properties, taking into account the available options for waste disposal. The licensees shall ensure that radioactive substances from authorized practices and sources not be discharged to the environment unless: (a) the discharge is within the discharge limits authorized by the Regulatory Authority; (b) the discharges are controlled; (c) the public exposures committed by the discharges are limited as specified by Reg Body (d) the control of the discharges is optimized in accordance with the principal requirements of the Standards. Licensees, before initiating the discharge to the environment of any solid, liquid or gaseous radioactive substance from sources under their responsibility, shall, as appropriate: (a) determine the characteristics and activity of the material to be discharged, and the potential points and methods of discharge; (c) assess the doses to the critical groups due to the planned discharges; and (d) submit this information to the Regulatory Authority as an input to the establishment of authorized discharge limits and conditions for their implementation .   20. Regulation on Safety of the Public to the exposure with ionizing radiation sources” No .481 date 25.07.2012 Article 11. Licensees, during the operational stages of sources under their responsibility, shall: (a) keep all radioactive discharges as far below the authorized discharge limits as is reasonably achievable; (b) monitor the discharges of radionuclides with sufficient detail and accuracy to demonstrate compliance with the authorized discharge limits and to permit estimation of the exposure of critical groups; (c) record the monitoring results and estimated exposures; (d) report the monitoring results to the Radiation Protection Commission at approved intervals; and (e) report promptly to the RPC any discharges exceeding the authorized discharge limits in accordance with reporting criteria established by the RPC. Licensing Article 4 of the law : Every legal and physical person, Albanian or foreign, who performs an activity which is listed in article 3(Article 3 c Manages radioactive waste..) of this law, is obliged to receive the licence from competent authority. The license conditions: Safety and security case (design and sitting, rad prot program etc) Building structures are stable to withstand degradation processes, floods and earthquakes, etc RW are protected by several physical barriers March 2017 Vienna

National Policy on safe management of radioactive waste in Albania No. 1319/3 date 25 March 2013 • IANP will be the only center in Albania for the management of radioactive waste. •  Government support IANP for qualified staff to manage radioactive waste and provides an appropriate mechanism  to cover costs related to the management of radioactive waste safely. •  Government of Albania through RPC  ensure that the  center for the management of radioactive waste  provides safety and security for the public and staff. • Producers of radioactive waste must constantly work to minimize radioactive waste at all stages. •  Albania does not allow the import of radioactive waste, but allowed the export of disused sources or transfer of radioactive waste to another center abroad  for their treatment.  March 2017 Vienna

DSRS conditioning, storage, disposal; existing and planned facilities Radiation Protection Commission has properly licensed the Institute of Applied Nuclear Physics (IANP) according to the national legislation. The license issued for the IANP is dated 14 October 2011, number 266. (IANP currently has applied to renew the licence and has submitted the documents at RPO) - processing- storage- (not disposal ) Waste collection, characterization (similar activities and half life in drums) IANP has the only storage Authorized in country March 2017 Vienna
