  1. Lord of the Flies (LOTF) Ch. 2 Bellwork: Copy: Commas are used to separate individual words, phrases, or clauses in a series. Copy: Ex. I play soccer, basketball, and baseball. Ex. I read a book, paid the bills, and walked the dog. Place the commas: Jim Frank and Alex went to the movies. I am a writer a poet and a musician. Review: I left and he followed. Create a sentence with commas in a series.

  2. Vocab • What makes your motivation to do well in school dwindle? • To whom should you never be flippant? • What are some ways to build up your immunity? • Where would you go if the school were to institute an open lunch policy? • Which would be a greater liability—to have no car or to have no cell phone?

  3. Picture • Draw a full page picture of Ralph, Piggy, or Jack. Remember to use the physical description of the character. Underneath the picture, describe the character’s personality. Copy a line from the book that shows the character’s personality is like.

  4. Civilized Respond on Chart What does it mean to be civilized? How are civilized people different from uncivilized people? How are the civilized and uncivilized different in how they act, what they have, where they live, etc.? Uncivilized

  5. III. Background: In a survival situation, people will continue to behave according to the rules of their previous society. This behavior often decreases as the time spent away from that society increases. The boys have come from a so-called “civilized” land and are now in a “uncivilized” area. The book is discussing what it means to be civilized or uncivilized.

  6. Respond What does “civilized” mean? What makes a society (group of people) civilized? What do civilized people have that uncivilized people don’t have? What do civilized people do that uncivilized people don’t do?

  7. Respond Technology is any tool that solves a problem or performs a specific function. Is technology overall something good or bad? When is technology good? When is technology bad? Give as many examples from your own life and from the video.

  8. Respond on the Chart What do each of these items of technology do in the book?
