  2. 3 rules for using the imperfect: • The imperfect is used for actions that were repeated habitually or … a) Cuando era niña, yosiemprecaminaba a la escuela. When I was a little girl, I used to always walk to school. 2. Actions that are not specific in time, have no beginning or end time. b) Almorzábamosjuntostodos los días.We would have lunch together every day.

  3. 2. The imperfect is used for actions that "set the stage" for another action. • Ayer mientras mi madre me hablaba, mi padre llegó. Yesterday while my mother was talking to me, my father arrived. b) Yoleíacuandoentró mi papá.I was reading when my papa entered. (note that "entered" is preterite)

  4. 3. The imperfect is used for telling time and stating one's age. • Eranlassiete de la noche, cuando me quedédormida.It was seven o'clock at night when I fell asleep. b) La niñateníacincoañoscuandopasó el accidente. The little girl was five years old when the accident happened.

  5. Forms of the imperfect, regular verbs: • Endings: -ar verbs: • Yo -aba • Tu -abas • El/ella -aba • Nosotros-ábamos • Vosotros -abais • Ustedes/ellos-aban • Stem: Take the infinitive verb, and remove the last two letters (the infinitive ending): • hablar > habl__
