Some Background About Temple Beth Sholom • 900 Family Conservative Congregation • Strong 56 year history • Education at its forefront • 2003 – Strategic Assessment at synagogue • Need to explore alternative models of education • 2004 – Began Re-Imagine Project Legacy Heritage Conference Call September 8, 2009

  3. 2007 – Restructured Religious School Program • Went from 3 day/week to2 days/week – 5 hours • ADDED Twice monthly Shabbat Family Study plus Mishpacha Service (one Friday Night, one Shabbat morning) • Monthly Family TikunOlam Project Legacy Heritage Conference Call September 8, 2009

Findings From Religious School Program • Parents, as a result of their involvement in Shabbat Family Study began to look at their own Jewish learning • Parents began to ask questions about home ritual and observance. • Parents seeking to become greater part of TBS community. The MoreiDerech Beth Sholom Project Year 2 2009-2010/5769-5770 • Identification of DorsheiDerech – Pursuers of the Path – in final recruitment stages. • DorsheiDerech Classes • Sunday Mornings • Twice each month – once with MoreiDerech, once on their own • MoreiDerech Classes - twice each month, once with DorsheiDerech, once on their own. • DorsheiDerech curriculum reflective of MoreiDerech curriculum – more instruction if needed. • Shared experiences – Shabbat, holiday and tikunolam projects Legacy Heritage Conference Call September 8, 2009

Why Mentoring? • Relationships are critical – will lead to future involvement • Creation of a cadre of vision driven potential leaders. • Creation of Community will keep people engaged and involved. • In speaking with “seasoned” congregants – all wish they had a “guide” in the beginning. • Very powerful mode of learning.
