Buckingham Palace. Buckingham Palace is the official London residence of the British monarch. Located in the City of Westminster, the palace is a setting for state occasions and royal hospitality. Buckingham House, c.1710, was designed by William Winde for the 1st Duke of Buckingham.

  2. Buckingham Palace is the official London residence of the British monarch. • Located in the City of Westminster, the palace is a setting for state occasions and royal hospitality.

  3. Buckingham House, c.1710, was designed by William Winde for the 1st Duke of Buckingham.

  4. Buckingham Palace became the principal royal residence in 1837.

  5. Queen Victoria, the first monarch to reside at Buckingham Palace, moved into the newly completed palace upon her coronation in 1837.

  6. The Palace measures 108 metres by 120 metres, is 24 metres high and contains 77,000 square metres of floorspace
