  2. What is the structure and where is it located? • The name of my structure is Buckingham Palace. Buckingham Palace is the home of the queen and her royal family. Buckingham Palace is located in London England. To be specific the city of Westminister.

  3. How is it unique? Describe the structural features. (form) • Buckingham Palace took a little bit over 7 years to build. Buckingham Palace is a giant frame that is 120 meters long and 108 meters wide. Buckingham Palace has 775 rooms including 19 state rooms, 52 royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms. Buckingham Palace has 1554 doors and 760 windows. It originally was built as a town house but was later enlarged by architects John Nash and Edward Blore. Building 3 wings around the side of the structure made it an official palace. The palace was originally designed by William Winde. The ballroom is the largest room in the entire palace. In the palace there is solids, shells, and has a huge frame. The columns and the balcony is solids. The two round domes on top and the arch when you walk in are shells. The whole palace except for what I mentioned is a frame. Without the frame the palace would crush down. This is because the frame has to hold everything up. It is basically like humans need bones to stand, this particular structure needs a frame to stand.

  4. What purpose does the structure serve? (function) • There are many reasons why Buckingham Palace is unique. One reason is that it Buckingham was not intended for the Royal Family. It was actually intended for the duke of Buckingham in 1702. In 1761 the duke of Buckingham sold the Palace to King George lll. What also makes it unique is that is was intended to be a town house for all of the knights in the city. The palace is an office to the bankers and employees of the queen and her royal family. When the queen is in the palace, the England flag is raised on top of the palace to honor her presence and to thank her for all she does.
