Use reading strategies (e.g., drawing conclusions, determining cause and effect, making inferences, sequencing) to comprehend text. • Concept 6: Conventions addresses the mechanics of writing, including capitalization, punctuation, spelling, grammar and usage, and paragraph breaks.

  5. Balance is Important How you do in one area will affect the other areas of your life. When you are more in tune with your goals (soul), it’s easier to focus on your studies (brain) and be more friendly (heart). It’s hard to be friendly (heart) when you’re exhausted (body).

  9. Caring For Your BodyYou Are What You Eat! • Be moderate – extreme eating habits can be unhealthy • Kids should NOT be on diets! Your body is growing • Eat a little junk food every now and then • Eat more wheat bread, fruits, vegetables and dairy • Eat less fast food, junk food and snacks full of sugar, salt and fat.

  10. Exercise • Our moods are better when we exercise • It gives you energy, melts stress away and clears your mind • There is no best way to exercise • Sports • Zumba • Biking • Swimming • Walking • Dancing

It’s All About How You Feel, Not How You Look • Do not be obsessed with the way you look. • Don’t compare yourself to the pictures of models or body builders in magazines – those are NOT REAL! • You don’t have to have a perfect body to be happy and healthy “You have to change your perception. Caring For Your Brain • Getting a good education is the most important price you can pay for your future. • Develop your brain power through schooling, extra curricular activities hobbies, volunteering and other mind engaging activities. • A college graduate earns about twice as much money as a high school graduate. Ways to Sharpen your Mind • Read a newspaper every day • Subscribe to a magazine • Travel • Plant a garden • Observe nature • Watch the Discovery Channel • Visit a library • Listen to the news • Research your ancestors • Write a story, poem or song • Play challenging board games • Debate • Play chess • Visit a museum • Participate in class • Learn to play a musical instrument • Have conversations with friends (not gossiping) • Solve Crossword Puzzles
