  2. CORK DOCKLANDS TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE – APRIL 2008 Background • Cork City - Gateway for South West Region • South Docklands - recognised Pivotal Location within Cork City • The City prepared Local Area Plan adopted by Council in February 2008.

  3. CORK DOCKLANDS TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE – APRIL 2008 Dockland Development is in line with the following Plans:- • National Development Plan 2007-2013 • National Spatial Strategy 2002 -2020 • South Western Regional Planning Guidelines 2004

CORK DOCKLANDS TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE – APRIL 2008 Transportation Network - Roads and Bridges Water Street Bridge • Linking the N8 National Primary Route with the Central Docklands. • Linking on the North Side with the N8 and South Side with Central Docklands – Centre Park Road and Monaghan Road, providing the vital access between the North Docks and the South Docks proposed development.

CORK DOCKLANDS TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE – APRIL 2008 The Eastern Gateway Bridge plus Approach Roads • Allows for access from the East – National Primary Routes N8 Dublin, N25 Waterford to the Docklands. • Includes upgrading of the N8 at Tivoli – a bridge across the Cork-Cobh Railway Line, and Opening Bridge across the River Lee, and Bridge Spanning the Marina on the Southern side and linking in to the main traffic artery – Monaghan Road.

CORK DOCKLANDS TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE – APRIL 2008 Centre Park Road and Monaghan Road Centre Park Road • Identified principal Public Transport Corridor within the South Docklands. • Will provide access to all non-car modes - pedestrians, cyclists. • Will also provide access to vehicles.

  10. CORK DOCKLANDS TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE – APRIL 2008 • Monaghan Road • Will be the main access into and within the Docklands. • Will link the Eastern Gateway Bridge, the Water Street Bridge • Will link the Water Street Bridge plus Approaches, and City Centre.

CORK DOCKLANDS TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE – APRIL 2008 PUBLIC TRANSPORT • High-Quality Public Transport essential to enable development of the area. • Type of Public Transport – very high quality such as Bus Rapid Transit within its own segregated lane. • Public Transport will cater for the Docklands plus the City Centre extending across the city. • Study to be initiated at present by Cork City Council. • This Public Transport System will link in with the proposed Transport Hub at Kent Station in the North Docks.

  12. CORK DOCKLANDS TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE – APRIL 2008 • Where we are now – Strategy going forward • The Water Street Bridge plus Approach Roads • The Eastern Gateway Bridge plus Approach Roads • The principal Internal Roads within the Docklands i.e. Centre Park Road and Monaghan Road.

CORK DOCKLANDS TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE – APRIL 2008 • We are finalising the Design and Environmental Impact Statement in relation to the above Roads and Bridges Infrastructure. • We plan to have submissions ready to go An Bord Pleanala for the necessary Statutory Consent in the first week of May 2008

CORK DOCKLANDS TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE – APRIL 2008 • We are finalising the necessary Land Take for these projects and plan to a have a CPO made by the first week May 2008. • This will be forwarded to An Bord Pleanala In the first week of May 2008 • It hoped to have an Bord Pleanala Hearing in late Summer 2008.

  15. CORK DOCKLANDS TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE – APRIL 2008 • We are in process of procuring Consultants to undertake Detail Design and Contract Documents for the Eastern Gateway Bridge, plus Approach Roads. It is hoped that this work will be completed by June 2008
