  1. Determination of 210Pb in mineral waters using Eichrom Resin Alžbeta Ďurecová, Dagmar Bursová, František Ďurec, Daniela Borošová State Institute of Public Health Department of Radiation Protection Banská Bystrica Slovak Republic

  2. Objectives • Contribution to the determination of 210Pb using Eichrom Resin in mineral waters • Determination of the chemical recovery by AAS

  3. Preparation of water samples • 1 litre of water acidified by HNO3 to pH < 2 • add 20 mg of Fe carrier and 7 mg of Pb carrier • add NH4OH to precipitate Fe as Fe(OH)3

  4. Separation scheme 2M HCl 6M HNO3 Sample of water acidified to pH < 2 2M HCl 6M HCl Pb Resin Iron hydroxide precipitation discard Evaporation Chemical recovery AAS LSC plastic vial Centrifuge, precipitate LSC counting supernatant

  5. Total dissolved solids in water samples

  6. Total dissolved solids in water samples

  7. 210Pb in water samples Results

  8. Determination of chemical recovery by AASResults

  9. Summary • Pb. Resin is suitable for the separation of 210Pb in natural mineral waters • The method is more efficient and cost-effective than traditional procedures • AAS determination of chemical yields leads to greater accuracy
