  1. 一 2ndQuarter Pep Talk Today, we are paper boxing. Head your paper in the upper right-hand corner with your name, today’s date, and the period you have civics. Label each box with the following terms: errarehumanumesttabula rasa respice, adspice, prospicefactanon verba

  2. errarehumanumest • To err is human. • We ALL make mistakes sometimes. • Admitting to your mistakes allows you to avoid mistakes in the future. • In two complete sentences, write about any mistakes you’ve made in civics during the last nine weeks.

  3. tabula rasa • Erased slate; blank slate. • At the beginning of the 2nd quarter of school, everyone starts with the same grade: an A. • Whatever you did in the first nine weeks has nothing to do with your grades during this nine weeks. • If you want to do well, now is the time to start. • Copy the following sentence: “I have the highest possible grade in my civics class right now.”

  4. respice, adspice, prospice • Examine the past, examine the present, examine the future. • You have looked at your mistakes. • You know where your grade is right now. • In nine weeks, where will you be? • In two complete sentences, write how you expect your grades to look at the end of this quarter AND how you expect this nine weeks will be different from the 1st quarter.

  5. factanon verba • Deeds, not words. • Why should you believe what I say? • Why should I believe what you say? • In three complete sentences, write three things you will DO during this 9 weeks to meet your goals. • Your home prep tonight is to get this paper signed by a parent or guardian. It is due tomorrow.
