  1. IBL Stave & loading tools • The main goal for today… • Review and Validate the SPECS for the Staves (dim., tol., …and the related fabrication processes and tools) • Review of the Assembly tools (Flex, Modules) and related SPECS • Define the critical envelopes and the way to check them… • Define the Services assembly at PP0 area (including Cable saver) University of Geneva:G.Barbier, F.Cadoux,A.Clark, D.Ferrère, C.Husi, P. Iacobucci, M. Weber

  2. Proposed Agenda General INTRO …15’ (Didier, Franck) • Stave Fabrication and Assembly status… 30’ (Eric, Charlie) • Stave drawings + Assembly views onto Beam pipe… 30’ (Didier L, Christophe) • Stave Metrology @ CPPM and UNIGE …30’ (Eric, Didier?) • Flex on Stave …30’ (Francois-Xavier, Christophe) ……………………………Lunch Break…………………………… • Overview on FEA applied to 14 Staves …20’ (Raphael) • Module loading on Stave …45’ (Coralie, Maarten, Didier F, Franck) - Handling frame(s) - Cradle(s) for loading - Interfaces to Wire bonding and Pull tester machines

  3. Stave Tooling version #0 Stave Handling Frame (IBL_HF#0) • From the U shape aluminum profile … • to a CFRP rectangular shape • T300 fiber, • 25 units to be fabricated • in 3 parts • Max length is 1,5m 250mm 1000mm Mold to get the CFRP profile (thickness to be optimized) Outsourced… Central part (50x30mmx2mm) 250mm Extensions for PP0 + Cable savers To be re machined after assembly onto the CFRP profile Flatness, parallelism, precision given by the aluminum mold

  4. Stave Tooling version #0 Handling Frame + Cradle #0 Cover(s) removed for clarity PP0 support Cable saver PCB Pipe length to be fixed TODAY Version -1 Clamping Positioning Cradle#0

  5. Stave Tooling version #0 Handling Frame + Cradle #0 • Bare Stave with Flex+Wings… • Handling frame to be delivered to CERN for Flex assembly • All the wings to be folded back for module loading • Wing repositioned after modules are loaded and visual inspection done AS received at UNIGE from CERN Flex wings NOT SHOWN HERE: Additional V support underneath the Stave Omega (x2) Used for Module loading and Wire bonding processes

  6. Stave Tooling version #0 Handling Frame + Cradle #0 When Flex wings are re positioned (and glued to the module)

  7. Stave Tooling version #0 Some details on PP0 + Cable Saver PCB Saver PP0 support

  8. Stave Tooling version #0 Some details on PP0 + Cable Saver Close Open PCB saver Short flex savers

  9. Stave Tooling version #0 Wire bonding machine (Interfaces) Cradle + Spacer

  10. Stave Tooling version #0 Wire bonding machine (Interfaces) Moved to 220mm (Same on the left side) 290mm Due to the capacity of the Wire bonding machine (range of 290mm)

  11. Stave Tooling version #0 Pull Tester Interfaces +/- 150mm Centering system And clamping

  12. Stave Tooling version #0 Some details on PP0 + Cable Saver Extensions up to 7m! Use of standard circular CFRP profile (pull winding?)

  13. Stave Tooling version #0 IBL_HF#0 for final Stave loading CAD Interference check (Stave loading onto Beam pipe) Delicate kinematic Mechanism for stave “docking” Half pipe as a rotating cradle OLD VERSION Checking by Didier L with IBL_HF#0

  14. Stave Tooling version #0 IBL_HF#0 (Access from the top) Cutting out thru the CFRP profile Close up… as seen from the top

  15. Stave Tooling version #0 IBL_HF#0 (Other Integration issues) • PP0 support to be worked out • (for final integration purpose) • Avoid interference / neighbor • Allow easy removal when stave in position
