  1. Lesson # 15 THE GREEN WORLD’S GIFT: Photosynthesis

  2. Glucose is a more-ordered stated of matter than CO molecules. Therefore energy is not released, but it is taken. 2 CO CO CO CO CO CO 2 2 2 2 2 2 Plants Transform the Solar Energy in Chemical Energy More entropy Carbohydrates SOLAR ENERGY Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate (G3p) PHOTOSYNTHESIS Glucose CHEMICAL ENERGY Glucose Less entropy

  3. PHOTOSYNTHESIS It is the process by which certain group of organisms capture energy from sunlight and convert it into chemical energy that is initially stored as carbohydrates.

  4. From sunlight + + CO 2 6 6 + + 6 NADP NADPH ATP + 6 ADP glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate G3p From atmosphere (Energy, glucose, starch, proteins)

  5. CO 2 O 2 ATP NADPH Glyceraldehyde 3P 1-Photo or Light Reactions Photo synthesis 2-Synthesis or Calvin Cycle

  6. Waxy cuticle Mesophyll cells Epidermal cells

  7. Chloroplasts are the actual sites where photosynthesis takes place. Calvin Cycle takes place in the stroma of chloroplasts Light reactions take place in the thylakoid membrane

  8. 1- Photo or Light Reactions Sunlight removes electrons from pigments and water and boosts them to a higher energy level to form Oxygen, ATP and NADPH.

  9. Photosystems are multipart units that bring together electrons derived from water and energy derived from the sun.
