  5. In-Text Citations • These are citations that give credit to where you found your information within your essay. • Any time you cite word for word, you must enclose the words in quotes: • It should be shocking that “ more than 18,000 adults in America die each year because they don’t’ have health insurance”

  6. In-Text Citations • You must also include a lead and citation telling where this quoted information came from: • It should be shocking that “more than 18,000 adults in America die each year because they don’t have health insurance” (Haase 19). Punctuation comes after parenthesis Lead Author’s last name and page number - no ‘pg.’ or comma

  10. In-Text Citations • If the sentences includes the author’s name, the citation may have only the page number. • According to Mr. Petty, every young boy in Philadelphia idolized Mike Schmidt (31). Credit given to author

  11. Sample Paragraph with In-Text Citations from Works Cited Page: The government should provide universal healthcare because there will be less sickness. Many people who do not have health care cannot get treatment, even for the simplest conditions. Universal healthcare would be defined as: “healthcare for all Americans…” (American Heritage 433). For more serious conditions and chronic illnesses, people without health insurance cannot get the care they need. This results in their conditions getting worse, with damaging effects on their long-term health (Haase 19). That is, if someone gets early treatment for a disease, the effects may be small. But if they can’t get treated, they may suffer more significant impacts. In more severe cases, lack of health care can be fatal. According to Tom Miller of the Cato Institute, “more than 18,000 Americans die each year because they do not have health insurance” (25). This means thousands of lives could be saved if people simply had access to regular medical care. You will cite what is seen first on your works cited page!
