  1. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES • POST COMMANDER • POST SR. VICE COMMANDER • POST JR. VICE COMMANDER VFW By-Laws Section 218 Roy Swanner - Chief of Staff

  2. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES • POST COMMANDER • Preside at all Post Meetings using Approved Ritual. Insure Post Business is Conducted according to By-Laws and Procedures • Appoint all Committees and Committee Chairmen. Appoint Officers not Elected. Attend District Meetings • Approve All Disbursement of Post Funds and Counter-sign all checks. Insure Quartermaster provides Monthly Accounting of All Revenues & Expenses • Encourage Eligible Veterans to Join VFW Post and Maintain Post Membership • Ensure All Post Reports are Completed and Submitted in a Timely and Correct Manner • Failure without Just Cause to Perform these Duties may result in Removal from Office

  3. POST COMMANDER RESPONSIBILITIES • Preside at all Post Meetings using Approved Ritual. Insure Post Business is Conducted according to By-Laws and Procedures • See Manual of Procedure for Details (the white pages) • “OPENING CEREMONIES” • “ORDER OF BUSINESS” • “CLOSING CEREMONIES”

  4. POST COMMANDER RESPONSIBILITIES • Appoint all Post Committees and Committee Chairmen. • Appoint Post Officers not Elected. • Attend District Meetings

  5. POST COMMANDER RESPONSIBILITIES • Post Commander Approves ALL Disbursement of Post Funds and Counter-signs all checks. • Insure Quartermaster Provides Monthly Written Accounting of ALL Revenues & Expenses (Quartermaster’s Report)

  6. POST COMMANDER RESPONSIBILITIES 4. Encourage Eligible Veterans to Join VFW and Maintain Post Membership through Ongoing Recruiting Efforts.

  7. POST COMMANDER RESPONSIBILITIES 5. Ensure All Post Reports are Completed and Submitted in a Timely and Accurate Manner

  8. POST COMMANDER RESPONSIBILITIES 6. FAILURE OF POST COMMANDER TO PERFORM THESE OR OTHER DUTIES MAY RESULT IN REMOVAL FROM OFFICE.

  9. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES POST SENIOR VICE COMMANDER • ASSIST THE POST COMMANDER AND PRESIDE IN HIS ABSENCE • PERFORM OTHER DUTIES AS MAY BE ASSIGNED

  10. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES POST JUNIOR VICE COMMANDER • ASSIST THE POST COMMANDER AND PRESIDE IN THE ABSENCE OF THE POST COMMANDER AND THE SENIOR VICE COMMANDER • PERFORM OTHER DUTIES AS MAY BE ASSIGNED

  11. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES SUMMARY UNDER THE POST COMMANDER’S LEADERSHIP OPERATION OF THE POST SHOULD BE A TEAMEFFORT. ALL POST OFFICERS SHOULD RECEIVE A COPY OF THEIR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OR APPOINTMENT. THESE RESPONSIBILITIES SHOULD BE DISCUSSED WITH THE POST COMMANDER TO ENSURE A FULL UNDERSTANDING OF THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE OFFICE.
