  1. Welcome to the Howell GravesAnnual Meeting of Title I Parents

  2. Why are we here? • The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires that each Title I School hold an Annual Meeting of Title I parents.

  3. What is the 1% set-aside and how are parents involved? • Any LEA with a Title I Allocation exceeding $500,000 is required by law to set aside 1% of its Title I allocation for parental involvement. (The Muscle Shoals City Schools do not receive enough Title I money for the 1% set aside, but we do get SOME parent involvement money annually.) • You, as Title I parents, have the right to be involved in how this money is spent.

  4. What is a CIP/ASSIST PLAN? • The CIP is your school’s Continuous Improvement Plan and includes: • A Needs Assessment and Summary of Data • Goals and Strategies to Address Academic Needs of Students • Professional Development Needs • Coordination of Resources/Comprehensive Budget • The School’s Parental Involvement Plan

  5. Parent Involvement! • Each year, the state department requires at least 4 parents of Intervention students to serve on the Intervention Committee. These parents will help decide on parent involvement activities (workshops, etc.) and help with the development of the CIP/ASSIST PLAN. • IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER TO SERVE ON THE COMMITTEE, PLEASE SIGN THE SHEET ON THE FRONT TABLE AFTER THIS MEETING!  • Thank you!

  6. What is the School-Parent Compact? • The compact is a commitment from the school, the parent, and the student to share in the responsibility for improved academic achievement. • The compact was sent home last week with each Title I child. You will need to sign and return the signature page given to you tonight. • In May, parents will have the opportunity to be involved in the development/revision of the School/Parent Compact.

  7. How do I request the qualifications of my child’s teachers? Are they Highly- Qualified? • You, as Title I Parents, have the right to request the qualifications of your child’s teachers. • 100% of Howell Graves’ Teachers are Highly-Qualified.

  8. Where can I see a copy of Title I plans and request my child’s teacher certification and qualifications? • The District Title I Plan, District Parental Involvement Plan, Howell Graves’ CIP, School-Parent Compact and Parents’ Right to Know (Highly Qualified Status) will be posted on the Muscle Shoals City Schools’ website under Federal Programs. • There will also be a copy of these documents in the HGP library.

  9. Studies have found that students with involved parents, tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and like school more. You have the right to be involved in your child’s school and WE WELCOME YOU to be involved at Howell Graves Preschool.
