  2. GOD’S HEART BROKENBY OUR SINS Matthew 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

Early History of Man: • Gen. 3:6 Adam & Eve • Gen. 4:8-10 First murder • Gen. 6:5-6 Grief over corrupt world 5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

Grief When Clear Warnings Unheeded • 2 Thess. 1:7-9 God: patience & vengeance 7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

A Broken Heart: Breaking the Bondage to Sin • 2 Cor. 7:10-11 Broken hearts correct corruption 10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. 11 For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

A Broken Heart: Breaking the Bondage to Sin • Ja. 4:8-10 Broken heart, not double mind 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. 9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

  26. GOD’S HEART BROKENBY OUR SINS Conclusion: • Father, Son, & Holy Spirit work to save each of us • All sin grieves God • If your heart is broken, God is ready to forgive: • Acts 2:38 To sinners in world • Acts 8:22 To erring saints
