  1. Note Taking • Your notes are the most important place for information and for your success in this class (EVEN MORE THAN YOUR TEXTBOOK!) • Statistically, you are 10 times more likely to remember something if you write it down than if you just hear it • Make sure that your notes are always neat, organized and with you. • Cornell notes are the best way to take notes and help you use your notes to study

Cornell Notes • Set up your paper in the following manner: • TITLE and PAGE NUMBER at top • Vertical line on left hand side labeled KEY POINTS and QUESTIONS (you will put any key points, questions, or reminders) 3. Horizontal line at bottom labeled SUMMARY (at the end of the lesson, use this space to summarize the lesson)

  3. Lab Safety IT’S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

  4. AVOID ACCIDENTS • Be aware of your surroundings • Keep all areas neat • Report all accidents no matter how minor right away

  5. Clean up any spills as soon as they happen • Never eat or drink anything other than your own water in the lab (this includes gum!) • Never touch, taste, smell anything without permission

  6. SAFETY SYMBOLS

  7. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS • All directions will be given verbally and in writing on a lab sheet or a slide • READ ALL DIRECTIONS before you begin

  8. USE PROPER SAFETY EQUIPMENT • Never use broken glassware • Wear safety goggles when using chemicals • Wear gloves when directed • Make sure all hair is tied back and not in your face

  9. ACCIDENTAL INJURY PROCEDURES • ALWAYS REPORT INJURIES • Burns- wash under cold water for 10 minutes • Chemical Spills on skin- talk to teacher – don’t wash off • Cuts- rinse off and apply pressure with a clean paper towel

  10. SPONGE BOB SAFETY • Working in pairs you are going to find any safety mistakes the students in the story are making. • Write down the mistake being made on your own piece of paper. There are 14 total mistakes • DO NOT WRITE ON THE STORY • This is due TODAY!
