Dec 2007: Department of Health and Ministry of Justice commissioned the development of a national training framework to support people to work more effectively with personality disorder • The key goal is to improve service user experience through developing the capabilities, skills and knowledge of the multi-agency workforces in Health, Social Care and Criminal Justice who are dealing with the challenges of Personality Disorder

  6. What do the overall frameworks aim to do? The goals of the Knowledge and Understanding Framework are to: • Design accessible, relevant and quality assured developmental pathways, making ‘breaking the cycle of rejection’ a practical reality • Raise awareness and shift pejorative attitudes • Build on service user experience • Ensure informed and responsive leadership and management • Improve interagency and inter-professional collaboration

Working with Personality Disorder: Developing understanding and effectiveness The goals of the Undergraduate Framework are to: • Challenge stigma through raising awareness and developing empathic responses of frontline workers • Highlight the interpersonal nature of working with PD • Ensure informed and responsive leadership and management • Develop improved interagency and interprofessional collaboration • Equip workers with the necessary knowledge and skills that help assess and manage risk in relation to complex presentations • Develop an appreciation of the importance of effective team work and staff support

Working with Personality Disorder Extending expertise, enhancing practice The Masters Framework: • Designed to meet the professional development needs of people already working in the field who may have responsibilities in the following areas • Leading Services or service development • Team Management and team consultation • Developing research and evaluation • Developing involvement and network strategies • The principle aim is to provide training that will lead to an effective improvement in service provision. This is most directly achieved through practice based training and skill based learning outcomes

Facilitated Programmes • A facilitated package of the awareness level modules: • An online seven module programme designed with a range of additional facilitated learning activities focused on different contexts and professions • A facilitated package of a train the trainers programme: • This programme will support students to develop the foundation knowledge and understanding in relation to personality at the same time as exploring their potential role in facilitating others through the learning journey.
