  2. 1. Why did the colonists hate the PROCLAMATION LINE OF 1763?

  3. Colonists were very upset many had planned on moving to the west after the war to invest in land

  4. 2. How did most colonists react to the Proclamation Line of 1763?

  5. Many colonists ignored the order and moved across to the west of the mountains anyway

  6. 3. How did King George III plan to enforce the Proclamation Line of 1763?

  7. He keeps 10,000 soldiers in the colonies after the war to enforce the proclamation line

  8. 4. Describe the QUARTERING ACT:

  9. The QUARTERING ACT stated that colonists were required to give the British soldiers a place to stay and food to eat

  10. Colonists hated this law and hated the soldiers

  11. Why did the King need to increase revenue after the French and Indian War?

  12. Needed more money to pay for soldiers in America England thought the colonies should pay for the soldiers protecting them, not the people of England

  13. 6. Describe the SUGAR ACT:

  14. The SUGAR ACT was a tax placed on sugar, molasses and other products shipped to the colonies

  15. 7. Describe the STAMP ACT:

  16. The STAMP ACT said all legal documents must carry an official stamp showing that a tax had been paid

  17. Items required to have a stamp included: diplomas, contracts, wills, newspapers and even playing cards

  18. The stamp tax also had to be paid in silver coin only – a rare item in the colonies

  19. 8. How did colonial leaders react to the many acts and taxes passed by the British government?

  20. Colonial leaders protested and upset they cannot vote on members of Parliament “No taxation without representation” they cried

  27. A BOYCOTT is refusal to buy something in order to prove a point The colonists started to boycott items taxed by the British to send the King a message

  29. The SONS OF LIBERTY were a secret society made up of people from every walk of life who protested the British taxes Included merchants, lawyers, workers, craftsmen, etc

  30. 12. What was the purpose of the SONS OF LIBERTY?

  31. The SONS OF LIBERTY met to organize protests and discuss the problems the colonies had with the King

  33. In 1766 Parliament realized the Stamp Act was a mistake they repealed it – they threw it out

  34. 13. Describe the TOWNSHEND ACTS:

  35. TOWNSHEND ACTS were a new set of taxes placed on imported products such as glass, paper, lead, paint and tea

  37. The King gave British soldiers the right to go into any house to look for smuggled goods The is called the WRITS OF ASSISTANCE

  39. SAM ADAMS lead a boycott of British goods in Boston Soon the boycott spread to all of the colonies in America
