  1. Physics Coordinators’ ReportGabi Pasztor and Pippa Wells The usual topics: • Papers, notes, readers • Ongoing analyses, uncovered analyses • Talks • Trends Physco Report - PW

  2. Papers and notes in 2005 • PR408Determination of alpha_s Using Jet Rates at LEP with the OPAL Detector • PR407 Measurement of the running of the QED coupling in small-angle Bhabha scattering at LEP • No PN so far. There is a risk of one or two papers for EPS being dispatched as PN and PR simultaneously or immediately after the conference (eg. for an OPAList speaker). Physco Report - PW

  3. Readers per draft • Running of alpha(t): 2 readers • GMSB: 1 reader (but LOTS of authors) • For both – some very committed EB members • Only a few offers for CR and 4 jets papers. More papers to come over the summer. Physco Report - PW

  4. Ongoing analyses • List of 31 ongoing analyses is here:http://opalinfo.cern.ch/opal/group/physco/ongoing.htm • We also maintain a list of uncovered topics:http://opalinfo.cern.ch/opal/group/physco/uncovered.html Physco Report - PW

  5. QCD, inclusives: 9 • Gabi has made the final version of PR408 • Alpha_s from 4 jets is dispatched • See also presentations this morning • 6 analyses have an EB (of which one on hold) Physco Report - PW

  6. Two-photon: 4 • F2 analysis aiming for publication for photon 2005. • two other analyses have had an EB for a while Physco Report - PW

  7. WW, TGC: 3+3 • W mass and CR will be final soon • Single W analysis is finished for thesis – paper should follow. • WW cross section analysis continues to be number 1 headache for physcos. Physco Report - PW

  8. Standard Model: 4+1LEP • alpha_em – working on response to journal referee • combined LEP paper close to final • Afb – status report today • 2 papers “stuck” Physco Report - PW

  9. Higgs, Searches 3+5 • H+- and Hinv aiming for this summer • GMSB has had final dispatch • Monopoles analysis ready for EB Physco Report - PW

  10. Predicted finish dates Physco Report - PW

  11. Ongoing analyses by group Physco Report - PW

  12. Summer conferences • 30 abstracts, (as usual, submitted all new results from the last two years) • PR already exists for 18 of them • 4 more papers have been dispatched • 8 will come at the last minute, or are wishful thinking • http://opal.web.cern.ch/Opal/pubs/eps2005/abstr.html Physco Report - PW

  13. Talks by OPALists in 2005 • Lake Louise: 2 • La Thuile + Moriond: 3 • Quark-Hadron Duality and the Transition to pQCD: 1 • QCD’05 (Montpellier) – organisers have asked if any OPAList is going • EPS 2005 – unknown Physco Report - PW

  14. Totals in year to date Physco Report - PW

  15. At last – a big idea? • Establish the Long Term Editorial Board now, to share the load for the last papers! Physco Report - PW
