  1. Monday, May 6, 2013 Anchorage Public School Reading/Language/Writing Students will read “The First Person on the Moon.” Reading skills this week include first hand versus second hand accounts as well as point of view. Students will review reading and language arts skills in preparation of KPREP next week. Math Our final unit assessment is Tuesday. We have whizzed through measurement & data with a primary focus on area & perimeter.  The rest of the week we will devote to reviewing the major concepts that we have covered this year.  Wednesday we will hit the Algebraic Thinking standards, Thursday we will hit Numbers & Operations standards (this will include addition, subtraction, multiplication & division), and Friday we will focus on fractions.  The students have learned so much this year, we just want a final chance to practice a variety of problems to prove to ourselves that we have mastered these concepts.  KPREP here we come!!! Science Students will continue the study of force and motion, and our 4th Grade Science KPREP Review. Students will work a flashback lesson daily by reading the lesson review and answering the accompanying questions. Flashbacks will be graded and recorded daily. Study Island Extra Credit is still available, but the deadline is May 13th! Social Studies This week in social studies we are continuing to build our big cities in the Northeast.  Last week students created their blueprints and located rivers, highways and transportation systems.  We will study basic concepts in building buildings. Students will learn about the importance of gravity, compression and tension.  They will study post-and-lintel structures so they can replicate the idea in their own constructions of their skyscrapers.   • Upcoming Dates: • May 8th- Art Fair • May 9th – LAST STEM Club from 3:15-4:15 • May 13th Science Study Island Extra Credit Due. • May 14-20th KPREP • May 21st- 4th Grade Field Trip • May 28th Student Assembly • May 29th Field Day • June 3rd Last Day of School NEWSLETTERMs. Campbell Ms. Holt Ms. Harper Just a Reminder: Extra Credit! Read All About It!Students will have an opportunity to earn extra credit in Science by working the Study Island Assignment on Physical Science. There are 10 lessons. Points are awarded as follows: * 10 Completed lessons= +15 point * 10 Completed lessons with blue ribbons= +30 points. 4th Grade Field Trip! 4th Graders will visit the Toyota Plant on May 21st. Please return permission slips and field trip money by Friday, May 10th. Because this field trip is out of county, field trip forms MUST BE NOTARIZED. Thank you. Spelling / Vocabulary This week’s spelling and vocabulary words are from neither workbook. They are Part 3 of 3 lessons on Homophones. Test Friday!
