  1. SAT 10 Parent Information Night

  2. What is the SAT10? • A norm-referenced test • Measures student achievement in reading and mathematics • Utilizes multiple-choice questions to measure subject area content and process skills • *Does not assess the standards taught in 1st and 2nd grade

  3. And the date is… …April 2 – 12 (1st week will be testing, 2nd week is make-ups) • Will be administered in the morning • One or two sections per day • Testing times vary each day – may last up to an hour and a half

  4. Interpreting Scores • Presents overall total score for reading & math - Specific skill strengths and weaknesses identified • Range of average is between 26% and 74% - (These are percentiles, not percentages of correct responses) *** There is no 100% or 0% (best or worst) • Compares students to other 1st & 2nd graders across the nation

  5. Interpreting Scores 25% 75% Bottom quartile is 25% and below Top quartile is 76% and above. Average Range

  6. How Do We Prepare? • We teach Common Core State Standards in 1st grade and Sunshine State Standards in 2nd grade • We administer practice tests to familiarize students with format • Practice listening to and following directions * • Build stamina in reading (25 – 35 min.)

  7. Important to Note… • Primarily a LISTENING assessment • Scripted ~ we can ONLY say what is written in the script • Directions are given orally • Many questions are not printed on test • Questions are read only ONCE, but information is restated in many questions

  12. Classroom/Test Procedures • Seats will be separated • All “aids” covered up or taken down • Students will be given “markers” to keep their place and scrap paper for solving math problems • No Homework that week!!! • No parent volunteers in school

  13. How you can help – Your child needs to … • Get plenty of sleep – earlier bedtime • Eat a good breakfast (universal) • Be at school – not a good week for doctor appointments or vacations • *If sick – STAY HOME! • Be on time!
