  3. Collective Goal #1 Finding the right “fit” • There are no great colleges. • There are no bad colleges. • There are colleges that are right for your child and colleges that aren’t.

  4. Collective Goal #2 Protecting your child’s sense of self-worth • A student’s worth is not based on college acceptance nor the standards applied by admissions offices. • Colleges cannot be “ranked.” • Showyour child that you love them more than you love any school.

  5. The Process – Spring • “Do well in your classes.” • College advisors will have at least two meetings with your child to begin the process of identifying possible schools. • Your child will take standardized tests.

  6. The Process – Summer • You and your child • Visit colleges. • Narrow down the college list – Ideally 9 schools – 3 reach, 3 target, 3 likely. • Begin the Common Application online. • Do some SAT prep.

  7. The Process – Summer • Holderness College Counseling Office • We will send a letter to you reminding you to sign up for standardized testing. • We will begin drafting letters of recommendation.

  8. The Process – Fall • “Do well in your classes.” • The English department plays a vital role in helping to draft essays. • Your child will take standardized tests. • Your child will meet with college representatives. • Your child will formally apply to college.

Testing Site Information • Encourage your child to register early for tests. • When registering you will need site numbers and school codes. • Holderness Site Number - 30225, Holderness School Code – 300515 • These numbers as well as others can be found on the College Counseling page on the school website.
