  2. Attendance Standards: NPS Goal The district’s expectation for attendance: Goal of 100% Attendance

  3. Attendance Standards: Punctuality Placing a high value on punctuality in insuring academic success. Excessive lateness for school and class may result in lower grades, and/or removal from school activities.

  4. Attendance Standards: Buy Back Program The “Buy Back” Program at each school is designed to afford every student the opportunity to make up work due to unexcused absences. The “Buy Back” program must be proactive and supporting to foster success and not to promote failure.

  5. Attendance Standards: Buy Back Program Students who do not successfully complete the “Buy Back” program: In elementary school, promotion may not be granted In high school, the student will receive a grade of N.C. (No Credit)

  6. Attendance Standards: Beyond the School Day If a student has an unexcused absence, the student will not be allowed to participate in any school activity on the day of the absence and until their official return to school.

  7. Attendance Standards: Parent Letters Parents/Legal Guardians are responsible for notifying the school, preferably before the start of the day when a child will be absent. A written note, with any supportive documentation must be presented upon the student’s return to school.

Grading Policy Grade Variables: Student Achievement • A minimum of nine grades required to examine student progress every marking period. • Determination of Grades • 65% Assessments • 25% Class work and Participation • 10% Homework • Feedback is to be immediate (no less than 48 hours) • Homework is to be assigned daily (every day; including Friday)

  14. Grading Policy • Grades assigned to course performance are to be based on the following numerical equivalents A+ 100 - 98 4.25 A 97 - 94 4.0 A- 93 - 90 3.75 B+ 89 - 87 3.25 B 86 - 84 3.0 B- 83 - 80 2.75 C+ 79 - 77 2.25 C 76 - 74 2.0 C- 73 - 70 1.75 D 69 - 64 1.0 F 0- 63 0

  16. Promotion/Retention Students will be retained only ONCE in any grade between Grades 1 and 8.

  17. Promotion/Retention The district shall issue a “progress report” for every student at the midpoint of each marking period. Any student in danger of failing any subject will be issued a warning notice to alert the parent/guardian. Specific interventions shall be implemented for those students who are not making sufficient progress by the classroom teacher(s) and Student Support Services Personnel (on-site) beginning with the first evidence of non-proficiency demonstrated in any content area.

  18. Promotion Students will be promoted to the next grade level without intervention, if he/she achieves: 1. Marking Period Grades (C- or above) 2. Levels of proficiency on state assessments (at or above 200) 3. Required Daily Attendance (zero absences)

  19. Retention and/or Intervention Student will be retained and/or placed in the next grade level with a Personal Refocusing Education Plan if he/she achieves: Poor marking period grades (below C-) Below 200 on levels of proficiency on state assessments Does not meet required Daily attendance

  20. Promotion/Retention A Personal Refocusing Education Plan (PREP) consists of prescribed treatment of proven research-based intervention strategies which shall be developed in collaboration with the parents, teachers, Intervention & Referral Services (I&RS) Committee, principal, and shared with the Receiving Teacher prior to the end of each school year for any student placed in the next grade level or retained.

  21. Retention I&RS process will be conducted, which is inclusive of student, teacher, parent and administration, before retention. Summer school will be mandatory for all who are retained. Personal Refocusing Education Plan (PREP) is to be completed and shared. Principal must sign report card.
