  3. Absences…what do I need? • Students have 3 days to bring in notes after absence. • If a student is absent for more than 3 days, the student must have a doctor’s note. • If a student does not bring in the required note, the student will be counted as having an UNEXCUSED ABSENCE.

  4. Truancy • 10+ UN-excused absences MUST file charges • Any combination of full days or parts of days (yes, leaving 15 minutes early from school is considered a partial day absence) • 3 Unexcused absences school MAY file charges • Any combination of full days or parts of days (yes, leaving 15 minutes early from school is considered a partial day absence) • Go to court *Usually: • 6 months probation • $ court fee • *This is up to the court but these are typical dispositions.

  5. TEXAS EDUCATION CODE • Section 25.085 states: • COMPULSORY SCHOOL ATTENDANCE. (a) A child who is required to attend school under this section shall attend school each school day for the entire period the program of instruction is provided. • Sections 25.093 and 25.094 of the Texas Education Code state that Your child is required to attend school without any unexcused absences • The reason why you are here: According to our records your child has at least 3 days or parts of days that are unexcused (parts of days can = 1 period) OR 3 or more tardies • Missing 3 days or parts of days (unexcused) violates this law • In accordance with section 25.095 of the Texas Education Code, we are required to warn you of the following: • As the parent of the student, you are subject to prosecution for the class c misdemeanor charge of Parent Contributing to Nonattendance – punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.

  7. Questions about attendance? • Q. How can we, as parents, monitor their attendance? • A. Check TEAMS or call the office to find what their attendance is. Communicate with us. • Q. What happens if I did not get the letter? • A. If you moved, let the school know. We have the address on file from the beginning of the year. • Q. Q. What happens if I don’t get a doctor’s note that day? • A. The doctor’s office can fax us a note—if you call them– or your child can bring it the next day.
