Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) Resident Visa Visitor Visa Apply for the ARC within 15 days from the day after the arrival • Change to a Resident Visa before the Visitor Visa expires • Apply for the ARC within 15 days of the issue of the Resident Visa Holders of visas, which are valid for 60 days and do not bear “No extension will be granted,” can directly apply for an extension of their visa at local service centers of the National Immigration Agency with the relevant documents. ARC • Prepare the required documents • Apply an ARC at the local office of the National Immigration Agency, Ministry of the Interior

ARC Visitor Visa • Must apply for an ARC extension one month before the expiry date (if the ARC expires during the summer vacation, the extension can be applied from the 1st of June) • Over-staying will lead to termination of the residence and being expelled from Taiwan • If any change to the information used to apply for the ARC, must report the change to the local office of the National Immigration Agency, Ministry of the Interior • Holder of a visa bearing “No Extension” may not apply for extension, unless his/her request for changing to an extendable visa is approved by the Bureau of Consular Affairs • Holder of a 60-day visa that doesn’t bear the stamp “No Extension Will Be Granted” may apply for a maximum of two 60-day extensions at local service center of the National Immigration Agency

Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) Additional Information ARC • To apply for ARC extension, students must complete the registration at the university and submit the student ID or proof of registration along with other required documents. The length of validity will be extended from October 1 to September 30 next year. • Master’s and Ph.D. students please note: If the oral defense exam for your thesis is scheduled in July, it is possible that you will not receive your diploma before July 31. In this case, please contact your department office before July 15 to make necessary arrangements for the extension of your ARC. If you have any questions about how to deal with this situation, please come to the Office of International Affairs. .

  6. Applicants must have finished at least two semesters Work Permit Important Regulations Application Procedure 1. Fill in the application forms and prepare the required documents 2. Have the application stamped by the academic institute of the applicant 3. Prepare relevant supporting documents 4. Have the application and all documents stamped at the Office of International Affairs 5. Take the application form and all documents to the Bureau of Employment and Vocational Training • International students who wish to work in Taiwan (either on campus or off campus) are required to apply for and obtain a work permit before starting work • Working without a work permit will be fined NT$30,000 to NT$150,000 • The period of validity of a work permit is 6 months at most • The Maximum working hours are 16 hours per week, except during summer and winter vacation

  7. Medical and Accident Insurance/ National Health Insurance(NHI) • For the first six months after arrival in Taiwan, each student need to have insurance from their own country which cover at least six months after arrival in Taiwan.

  8. National Health Insurance (NHI): • Overseas Chinese and International Students staying in Taiwan for at least 6 months and holding Residence Certificates, are eligible for and should enroll in the NHI Program. (If you already have NHI card, please inform us) • Since September 2014 you can and should apply for NHI program. The fee for the NHI is 749 NTD per month. Payments will be collected on a six months basis (4,494 NTD). This amount will be listed in the tuition fee payment form.

  9. Case1: Foreign students holding ARC should enroll in the health insurance program if one has stayed in Taiwan for more than 6 months without departure.

  10. Case2: Foreign students who have left Taiwan ONCE for less than 30 days during activation period (6 months) should deduct the days of leave from one’s activation period and apply for NHI when the total period of stay reaches six full months.

  11. Case3: Foreign students who have left Taiwan ONCE for more than 30 days during activation period (6 months)should be re-established NHI from the date one returns to Taiwan.

  12. NTUST Scholarship

  13. Duration of NTUST Scholarship To keep your eligibility to receive a scholarship, you need to apply for the renewal of the scholarship for your next year of graduate study.

  14. Renewal of NTUST Scholarship • 2014 fall semester students • You will be informed by email when the renewal procedure begins. • The result will be announced by email. • Make sure you check school email box constantly.

  15. How to Begin Receiving Your Scholarship Step 1: Complete the registration procedure Step 2: Get an ARC & open a postal savings account (samples are provided) Step 3: Go to Student Information System (Scholarship Recipient) to register your information

  16. When to Receive Your Scholarship? Around 15th of every month Delay: February & September You are strongly encouraged to save some money ahead of Winter Vacation & Summer Vacation to get them through any delay until the next stipend is deposited.
