  2. When Did The Civil War occur? It started on April 12,1861 and ended April 9,1865 On April 12th the confederacy attacked Fort Sumter in Charleston SC. The Federal troops returned fire and the Civil War had begun.

  3. What Alliances Were formed during the Civil War? • England and France were allies with the Confederacy

  5. Transportation • Transportation for the civil war consisted mostly of horses. Horses were used to carry supplies and some groups of cavalry mounted on horseback for battle. • They used railroads to move the troops and the weapons. The Union Corp of engineers laid down the tracks and built bridges for military trains. • And steamboats were also used to move large troops.

Abraham Lincoln(union) Abraham Lincoln -Was the commander and Chief of the Union army(Which was known as the highest military officer position) -He declared the Emancipation Proclamation which declared all slaves be set free from the southern states that still allowed slavery -The Gettysburg Address was the speech he made at a cemetery in Pennsylvania to honor all the soldiers who lost their lives in war -He was assassinated on April 14th , 1865 five days after the south surrendered which ended the war -Was known as “honest Abe” or “ The Great Emancipator”

  10. Robert E. Lee(confederate) Robert E. Lee -he graduated from West point Military academy and became general before the Civil War began -He was asked by Abraham Lincoln to control the union side of the army but, he stayed loyal to his home state and was general for the south. -He surrendered the southern states from the war because of the number of men who were dying, the north was known as the more powerful side of the war. - He never talked about the war nor it’s outcome and denied any offerings of money from people seeking stories. -He was known as the South’s greatest General

  11. What were the main battles of the Civil War? • Fort Sumter occurred April 12, 1861.Happened at the Charleston Harbor in Charleston SC. The Confederate army won the battle.

  12. 2nd Battle of Bull Run • 2nd Battle of Bull Run Occurred august 29 1862in Virginia. Generals Robert E. lee and John Pope were the commanders of this battle. The attacks from both sides left over 22,000 casualties. But even with all of power from the Union it was still not enough to garner themselves a victory. This battle was known as the decisive battle of the Northern Virginia Campaign.

  13. Battle of Gettysburg Happened on July 1,1863 in Pennsylvania. It was the biggest battle of the Civil War Between Robert E. Lee’s army of Northern Virginia and the Union army of the Potomac. More men fought and died than any other Battle in American history. 28,00 died on the Confederate while 23,000 died on the Union. This battle led to the Abraham Lincoln speech, The Gettysburg Address, which was on the same field that the battle occurred on. The battlefield was also dedicated to a military battlefield.

  14. The 2nd battle of Fort Fisher Happened on January 15, 1865 in North Carolina. It was the only major Confederate port still open. The Confederacy lost all contact with outside resources and was unable to supply it’s armies with military supplies.

  15. Battle of the Appomattox Courthouse Happened on April 9, 1865 in Virginia. Robert E. Lee’s army was surrounded on three sides by the Union infantry. The Union was known as being the more powerful of both armys so the Confederate had little chance of winning. Lee surrendered his troops that same day.

  16. In the end over 600,000 died on both sides, of battle deaths or disease.1/10 of all soldiers were reported wounded..

  17. How does the Civil War end? • The Civil War ended at the Appomattox Court house in Virginia. Lee stated, "Thereis nothing for me left to do but to go and see General Grant, and I would rather die a thousand deaths." Shortly after, Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant signed the surrender terms.

  18. How did the Civil War affect America’s Future? The Civil War with all of it’s devastation led America to become the united country that we are known as today. It led to the end of slavery and many tough issues. But after the war the north and south were left with a strained relationship that many times can be heard and seen today.
