  2. Scorekeeper Pre-Match Responsibilities • Report 20 minutes before match time • Complete the heading section of the score sheet • Record the date, site and time of the match • Record home and visiting teams • Record serving team after coaches and captains meeting • Receive team rosters 10 minutes before start of match • Receive and record line-ups 2 minutes before end of warm ups and 1 min before subsequent games • Record starting line-ups for both teams in service order • Record libero for each team on the score sheet • Notify the 2nd Referee if Captain or libero are not noted on a submitted line-up.

Scorekeeper Match ResponsibilitiesRecording What Happens • Record the result of each serve or point • Actual point awarded in the line score and corresponding point slashed in running score • Box around all rally points : Triangle around libero points • - ] (End of rally) • R (Replay) • RS (re-serve) • P1 (P for penalty, followed by the actual point awarded) • Record time-outs in both the line score and in the time-out section: T for requesting team or Tx for opponent time-out. • Record subs in both the line score and team line-up. • S or Sx followed by number entering for player replaced. • Libero Tracker should also record substitutions • Record comments (for all penalties, exceptional subs) • Change pen colors after teams have rotated though the service order • Record the final score for each game

Other Game Responsibilities for Scorekeeper • Verify the serving order when requested by the 2nd Referee • Usually after a coach or captain makes a request to the 2nd Referee • REMEMBER: coaches and captains may talk to the Referees, but should not address scorekeeper. • Notify 2nd Referee of discrepancies in the score • Notify 2nd Referee when the 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th substitutes are used by a team – if necessary notify of 19th substitute. • Notify 2nd Referee of improper server verbally at the time of serve (not before they serve). Do NOT to sound the horn to stop play but sound if necessary at the end of the play. • Notify 2nd Referee of illegal substitutions (hopefully you will notice prior to sub entry, if not notify during the next dead ball). • Notify the 2nd Referee when game point is reached.

  5. Scorekeeper’s Re-Cap • 20 minutes before match start time & fill in all heading information. • Enter the starting line-up & libero for each team in proper serving order. • Record every play or action • Result of a serve • Record Point in player’s (server’s) scoring section corresponding to the point running point) • Slash, or put a Triangle if Libero served the point in the running score • Loss of Rally (--|) Put a box around the running score & around the point in the line score of the next server • Substitution: (S or Sx #entering/#leaving) & slash team substitute number • Time out (T or Tx in line score) also in box of team taking time out (score of team taking To - opponent score at the time of time-out. • Penalty (P) • Replay (R) • Re-serve (RS)

The “Comment Section” The scorekeeper records all unusual information that awards points when no serve takes place and information that could impact the penalty applied and player eligibility: • Warnings : Yellow Card ( Team, Y#_, Score of offending team-opponent score) • Penalties: Red Card (Team, R#_, Score of offending/opponent) • Uniform/Equipment Violations = Unnecessary Delay (Team, UD #_, Score of offending team – opponent Score) • Unconscious Players (“unconscious player Team , #_”) • Exceptional Substitutions (“Team, Ex sub, #7 / #2: That player is out for the SET).

  7. Libero Tracker Responsibilities • Sit next to the scorekeeper • Notify the 2nd Referee when a libero is not designated for a game by on the line-up sheet prior to game start time • Communicate with the scorekeeper for all substitutions and libero replacements • Record all substitutions and libero replacements on the libero tracking sheet • Tell 2nd Referee if the libero is replaced by an incorrect player or an undesignated libero enters the game • Notify 2nd Referee if the libero does not stay out of the game for one rally between replacements (unless the libero is the next server)

SETTING UP THE SHEET Pre-Match • This is a varsity match between Home Team Handley High School and Visitors James Wood High School at Handley Gymnasium. • The date is October 22, 2010, and this is set 1 scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The 1st Referee is Christina Cox and the 2nd Referee is Kyle Schmid. You are the scorekeeper for the match.

  9. Visitors James Wood High School (JWHS) has won the coin toss and elects to serve first. • Home Team Handley High School (HHS) has already chosen their playing area which is the court to the right of the scorekeeper.

  11. THE LINE-UPS Team line-ups are submitted 2 minutes before start of match and 1 minute before 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th game. Check Line-ups for: • A Floor Captain (marked C next to one player #) • A Libero (number of player) • Non-duplicate numbers • Serving/Receiving Team

  13. ENTERING LINE UPS Use Black or Blue Ink to enter Line-up. Enter Teams on the side they are playing Enter player numbers to the far left of the box to allow for substitutions. It does not matter if the team is Serving or Receivingalways start with the first player listed and fill down for Serving Order.

The Match • Check the Line-up as the Second Referee checks it on the floor • Check that you entered the numbers correctly • Check to make sure the correct players are on the court in the correct positions • The receiving team will have their 1st server in right front as they will rotate before they serve. • Let the 2nd Referee know if you see a problem • Note the Start Time: 5:35 p.m.

  46. Comment Section • Yellow Card – HHS Y#12(7-6)yellow card given to #12 from HHS, score was 7-6 (offending teams score listed first). A second yellow will disqualify an individual for the remainder of the match. • Red Card – HHS R#3(7-0) A single flagrant offense or Red Card Penalty on #3 when the player’s team led 7-0. Red cards in FHSAA always result in player disqualification (ejected) and Penalty point awarded to opponent. Coaches must leave area. • Illegal Equipment/Uniform is an Unnecessary Delay and penalized with a charged time out (if the team has a TO remaining for the FIRST offense only) all subsequent delays for illegal equipment/uniform are always penalized with a Penalty point FWHS UD-TO or UD-P, # __ (4-6) • Unconscious Player – write “unconscious player # __” when an unconscious player or apparently unconscious player has been removed from the game and may NOT return. • Exceptional Substitution – write ExSub # __ / #__ and the sub may not return for the SET
