National Honor SocietyCambridge Chapter • Criteria for Membership • Honor is bestowed upon students who demonstrate outstanding traits in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. • Once selected, members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities. • Any member failing to meet his/her obligations is subject to revocation of membership.

  4. National Honor Society: Function/Purpose • To create enthusiasm for scholarship • To stimulate a desire to render service • To promote worthy leadership • To encourage the development of character

About the Portfolio: • A panel of teachers will review your portfolio and decide on your admission into the National Honor Society. • The portfolio must be turned in physically (no emails) by Monday, February 25th, 2019, by 7:40 a.m. to Dr. Karschnik in room 2.123.* • YOUR PORTFOLIO MUST BE ON TIME. NO EXCEPTIONS. * If school is cancelled due to weather, portfolio is due next school day by 4pm

Completing the Portfolio • Complete application in black, blue ink or typed. • Only include HIGH SCHOOL activities. • DO NOT WORRY if you do not fill every blank. • Include signatures as required in the portfolio. • Both Leadership and Service sections MUST be completed. • Include Essay following portfolio prompt.

  12. Essay Respond to the following in typed or word-processed form (double space and use a 12 font). Essay should be no longer than two-pages. Do NOT include your name on the essay. “If selected as a member of National Honor Society, describe the contributions you would make to the club. Use at least two of your leadership positions and two of your service activities”

  13. Guidelines for Portfolio • Use a folder with clasps in the middle to hold your portfolio. • Do NOT write your name or use any other identifying information on the cover of your portfolio.

Guidelines for Portfolio • Hole punch your portfolio and assemble it in this order: • Title sheet with your full legal name, address, and email. • Completed National Honor Society Selection form • Service and signatures • Leadership and signatures • Essay- • Contributions you would make to the club. • Use at least two of your leadership positions and two of your service activities.

  15. Please remember that the decisions of the anonymous evaluation panel are final. Invitations to students selected for membership will be delivered by the end of March . All portfolio materials will be shredded 30 days after evaluation.
