  2. Who are the main characters of the chapter? What were the main/events/main issues or conflicts that occurred in this chapter? Main Character - President of the University of Oskaloosa. He was concerned about higher education. He wanted higher education to be based on pure thought, rational, systematic, orderly.

  3. What were the main events/main issues or conflicts that occurred in this chapter? 3 major reforms 1. Development free magic system - students will choose subjects instead of all learners go through same routine 2. Students only able to choose department; no time to study anything else 3. General Magic system - every student goes through the same program; showing all students how to think, not what to think

  4. What connections are there between events/ main issues or conflicts of the chapter and the historical context? Tribe men (leaders of the tribes) and government were the ones controlling the curriculum. Professors at the University trying to compete against each other by finding new claims, so they can be the best at their field. Historical content - discovery of new inventions, winning noble peace awards Increase of requirements in order to be a teacher

What connections did you make between events/main issues or conflicts of the chapter and current issues in education in general or mathematics and science education? 1st reform and graduation requirements 1st reform - students got to pick which department they wanted to study just like students today need to pick which graduation endorsement route How versus why - showing students how to solve problems versus students using their own problem solving skills Every student needs to know the basic information to be able to move to the next grade level
