  3. What is a Mock Kick-Off? • Kicks off an old FRC game • New teams members learn what Kick-Off is • Veteran team members go over design process • GOFIRST Mock Kick Off (MoKo) • Fast-paced 5 hour event • Focuses on team building and design processes

  4. Brainstorm ideas • Be specific • Chose functions and rank them • What the robot Does, not How • Keep Strategy in mind Black Box Design Process

  5. Things the robot MUST do! • First must be able to build it • Pass Inspection • Read the rule book many times each season! • Move • Thing? Requirements/Needs

  6. Things you WANT the robot todo! • Matches robot to your desired strategy • Complete more complex tasks • Makes you more competitive • Moves your team forward • Be aware of the Deadline! Objectives/Wants

  7. Things that pull in opposite directions • Speed vs. Torque (Pushing Power) • Weight vs. Complexity • High reach vs. low center of gravity Trade-ables

  16. Conceptualization • Start Thinking of Robot Designs! • Start by thinking of some designs alone • State how it does stuff • Then work with your table to pick a design • DO NOT GET EMOTIONALLY ATTACHED • Don’t say “Because I want to” or “Because another team did it” January 9th, 2013

  17. Critical Design Review • Work with the table next to you to review your designs • Look for possible flaws • Did they meet their requirements? • Go through their list number by number • How did the team meet each one? • Why did they make those choices?

  18. BUILD • Welcome to your primary design! • Change based on prototype results • Watch out for ship date • Be aware of unexpected problems • Snow days • Parts not shipping/arriving on time • Rules Updates!!! • Pre-Ship Regional(s) January 13th, 2013
