  6. English Bill of Rights 1689 • This document guaranteed certain basic rights to all citizens and later inspired the writers of the US Bill of Rights.

  7. Declaration of Independence 1776 • This document, written by Thomas Jefferson, announced that the 13 colonies were separating from England.
