  1. Types of Government Foldable HG 14

  2. Copy the following notes on your government foldable. Pay special attention to whether or not the form of government described is limited or unlimited.

  3. People govern themselves by voting on individual issues. Every member of the society gets and equal vote. Was originally practiced in Ancient Greece. Still practiced today in some New England States. Can be a very time consuming form of government.

  4. Absolute Monarch was once the world’s most dominant type of government. Constitutional Monarch – United Kingdom, Netherlands, Sweden are all ruled by a constitutional Monarch. A constitution is required and officials are democratically elected into some type of parliamentary/congress.

  5. This is also known as the Feudal system of government. This type of rule exists even today. The rich have the power and influence the larger parts of a society. Ancient France, England, and Germany were all Oligarchy at one point.

  6. Revolutions lead to anarchy, chaos and other negative side effects. The United States did not suffer this problem after the American Revolution due to a very clear rule of law established by England. North Korea is an example of an Authoritarian rule. The military of the United States is another organization often considered to be Authoritarian. This is an unlimited form of government.

  7. One person, a dictator, has absolute power over the government, the people, and the economy. People who live under a dictatorship have few rights. Examples of Dictatorship are Hitler in Germany, Stalin in Russia, Kim Jon Sun in North Korea, Saddam Hussein in Iraq, Fidel Castro is Cuba. Adolf Hilter, Germany Stalin, Soviet Russia Kim Jon Sun, North Korea

  8. People elect leaders who are expected to govern within the limits set by written law (often a constitution). A written body of law required. The United States, Ancient Rome, Germany, and India are all examples of a Republic.

  9. Governed by someone who is believed to have divine (GOD) guidance. There have been many examples of this type of rule over the centuries. In modern times you can see examples such as the Pope, The Dahli Lama, or the Iran Iatola. These figures are believed to be the hand of god here on Earth and rule until dead.

  10. The key difference between this rule and a dictatorship is that this is a rule by a group of people or a belief system over another. Nazi Germany is an example where the beliefs inherent in the Nazi party were imposed upon the entire country. Communist China Communist Russia
