  2. 1/13/14 Writing Prompt #2 You have been given the task to choose a guest speaker for your class. Write about whom you would choose and why. Example: If I had been given the task to choose a guest speaker for my class, I would choose Brad Pitt.Brad Pitt is a famous actor and he is really involved in environmental causes, such as living “green.” He would be a great guest speaker for my class because he could give us information on how to live in an environmentally friendly way. I would choose Brad Pitt because he is good looking, smart, and cares about our environment.

  3. Grammar Practice • Mechanics - Punctuation - Quotation Marks • Use quotation marks around the exact words of a speaker. • Example: He said, "I saw that." "I saw it too," she said.

  10. 1/14/14 Writing Prompt #3 It has been said that laughter is the best medicine. Think of a time when your ability to laugh helped you to get through a difficult situation. Write about what happened. Support your response with details and examples. Example: It has been said that laughter is the best medicine and I agree. Laughter has helped me through many difficult situations.For example, one time I was on vacation with my best friend in Jamaica. We decided to go horseback riding on the beach. When we got on the horses, it seemed like they were scared and were using the ocean as their bathroom.It was difficult to have fun on a scared horse while manure was splashing in our faces. Afterward, my best friend and I laughed about the whole situation and it ended up being one of our favorite activities on vacation.

  19. 1/15/14 Writing Prompt #4 Describe one of your favorite activities. Tell what you like to do and explain why this is your favorite activity. Example: One of my favorite activities is to plant a garden. Every spring, I put up my green house and start seeding various fruits and vegetables. As they grow, I transplant the plants to the outside garden and take care of the plants all season. Gardening is one of my favorite activities because I can see the progress as the plants grow and I end up with delicious home grown food.
