What are Layers? • A section within an image that can be manipulated independently • Use layers to control individual elements in an image Figure 3: Image from www.washington.edu

Layers Panel The order in which the layers appear in the Layers panel matches the order in which they appear in the image. Figure 4: The green layer is the active layer.

History Panel • The History panel contains a record of each task completed in an image • The record of an event is called a state • The History panel displays up to 20 states Figure 5: History panel

Using Photoshop Help • Photoshop Help information appears in a browser window • You can click a topic on the left side of the window or enter a keyword in the Search text box Figure 6: Photoshop Help
