  3. Teamwork • Clearly establish leader • Delegate roles and responsibilities • Verbally clarify roles • Communication essential • Acknowledge contributions of team members • Demonstrate mutual respect • Hold personnel responsible • Resolve conflicts professionally

  4. Communication • Clearly identify leader • Verbally clarify roles and responsibilities • Use names • Point • Make eye contact • Ensure “check-back”

  5. Communication • Silence non-essential chatter • Do not shout • Announce plan to room • Decreases confusion • Increases cooperation • Increases speed and efficiency (“We are going to CT in 5 minutes.”

  6. Delegate • Assign roles • Airway team • Nursing team • Family communication • Assign tasks/procedures • Place IVs • Place chest tube • Shoot films

  7. Control Environment • Ensure that everyone participating knows their roles and their tasks • Ensure that everyone is aware of the each others roles and tasks • Maintain order • Remain calm • Silence when necessary (e.g. airway control) • Rule: “If you do not control the situation, then the situation will control you.”

  8. Maintain Situational Awareness • Request information (uphill flow) • Constant feedback • Data should be called out • Loud • clear

  9. Manage Errors • Errors or potential for errors need to be address ASAP

  10. Conclusion • Be firm and fair • Maintain good communication • Be clear in your expectations • Request data as needed • Adjust plan as necessary and clearly communicate plan to team
