  2. Secretes oil and lubricates the skin and discourages the growth of bacteria on the skin

  3. Sebaceous Glands

  4. Help regulate body temperature and water content by sweat. Also small amounts odwasre products.

  5. Sweat Glands

  6. Protect the dorsal surface of the last bone of each toe and finger.

  7. Nails

  8. Forms a protective layer for all internal and external surfaces of the body

  9. Epithelial tissues

  10. Means scale like. The upper layer of epidermis. Sheds continuously.

  11. Squamous epithelial tissue

  12. A fibrous water repellent protein. Found in hair and nails.

  13. Keratin

  14. Basal cell layer (lowest layer) contains this. These cells produce melanin= gives us our skin color and freckles. Protects us from UV light

  15. Melanocytes

  16. Also known as the corium, the thick layer of skin below the epidermis; contains connective tissue, blood and lymph vessels and nerve fibers

  17. Dermis

  18. Is in the dermis: __________which means glue, found in bones, cartilage, tendons and ligaments

  19. Collagen

  20. Is in the dermis: __________ is released in an injury: anticoagulant (Mast cell)

  21. Heparin

  22. Is in the dermis: __________ is released in response to an anllergy (Mast cell)
