  4. Register to Graduate • Students must register to graduate. Be sure to register for your correct time frame. • Spring and summer graduation - February 24 • If you have missed the deadline, please send an email from your MySCSU email account to both Cynthia Hicks at HicksC3@southernct.edu and Elizabeth Lopez at LopezE11@southernct.edu indicating you have missed the deadline. Please include your Student ID Number and Name. Subject Line: Missed Deadline and the Graduation term for which you are applying.

Graduation Requirements • Complete all courses on planned program, including any revisions (GPA must be 3.0 or better). • Pass CMD 605 - Special Projects or successfully complete a thesis. • Pass the ASHA national exam, Praxis II. • Complete all observation & clinical hours. • Complete all KASA areas; give copy of KASA to Program Director. • Complete exit survey (link to be sent to students towards end of semester).

  7. Thesis and Special Project Deadlines • May 5, 2017 for spring graduation • August 10, 2017 for summer graduation

  8. Praxis II • When to take • Sending scores: • CT State Department of Public Health R7051 • ASHA R5031 • SCSU Records R3662 • Bring a paper copy of your score to Mrs. McMahon.

  9. Graduation • Will receive info about cap, gown, tickets, etc. • Applying for the graduation ceremony is not the same as registering to graduate. • Hooding ceremony • Lyman Center

  10. State licensure – Department of Public Health (DPH)

  11. Procedure • May begin to work in some settings prior to awarding of degree To begin working in the state student must : • have a qualifying Masters or Ph.D. Degree • OR: • have completed all clinical clock hours and all academic course work Program Director sends letter to state upon student’s request if #2 above is met.

DPH License mandatory for all settings • To apply for permission to begin Supervised Professional Experience (SPE), student sends directly to Department of Public Health (DPH): • Application & fee • Praxis II scores • Transcript or letter from Program Director • DPH sends form for SPE plan (also found online) which is submitted and may be implemented up to 6 weeks retroactively; DPH will send candidate starting date of SPE after receipt and approval of plan. • Once SPE is completed, SPE Report is submitted in order to finalize licensureDPH certification information

  13. States other than CT • May be similar—may be different!!! Student must research what is needed for another state. • May need letter similar to CT letter; if so, follow directions for CT • Provide contact information for letter

RE: Faculty position inquiry Wed 10:20 PM 21 KB Specific Requirements • Completion of special education course and 6 semester hours in professional education • Social/emotional/behavioral development and disorders modules • 6 credit hours and at least 100 clinical hours of student teaching • CT State Department of Education

Procedure • Must have Initial Educator Teacher Certification in order to work in Connecticut public and certified private schools • Complete packet and return to SCSU certifying officer, Mr. Bungert in Davis 103. DO NOT SEND MONEY. • The application will not be certified until the degree has been posted. • It will be returned to you after it is certified for you to mail.

  18. Renewal of Teaching Certification • Once you receive your CT Initial Educator Certificate which is valid for a period of three years, you can renew the certificate up to five times, for a total of 18 years even if you have not worked as an SLP in the educational system.

  21. ASHA Certification & Membership • Send to ASHA: Transcript must be sent to ASHA • Praxis II scores must be sent directly to ASHA • Check NSSLHA to ASHA conversion; you have until August 31 following your graduation year to get this rate. Without conversion, you have 12 months from graduation to qualify for new graduate rate. • There is no rush to apply. May wait until the end of your CF
