  2. Oregon PE Standards 1. EXPRESSIVE & EFFICIENT MOVEMENT: – Demonstrate knowledge of a variety of motor skills. – Understand and participate in a variety of physical and recreational activities available in the school and community. – Understand and apply movement concepts. – Understand and apply physical education vocabulary as it relates to movement concepts. – Understand rules and strategies for a variety of physical activities.

  3. Oregon PE Standards 2. FITNESS FOR LIFETIME: – Demonstrates knowledge of a physically active lifestyle. – Understands the meaning of physical fitness and how personal fitness can be improved and maintained using a health-related fitness assessment as one tool for measurement.

  4. Oregon PE Standards 3. SELF-MANAGEMENT & SOCIAL BEHAVIOR: – Understand appropriate and positive behavior management (social skills) and respect for all individual differences, including gender, ethnicity, and physical ability during physical activity. – Understand and apply safety in movement activities. – Understand that history and culture influence games, sports, play, and dance.

  5. PE I – Foundations of Fitness H = Health-Related Fitness (Standard #2) E = Emotional Intelligence (Standard #3) L = Lifetime Activities (Standard #1) P = Personal Fitness Plan (Standard #2)

As a result of completing this course, a student will be able to: – Self-assess and analyze the health-related components of physical fitness (H). – Select and apply appropriate exercises necessary for overall fitness (H). – Identify goals and implement goal-setting strategies (P). – Select and participate in physical activities outside of school (L). – Identify emotional intelligence skills and apply them in physical activity settings (E).

  8. NOT JUST FOR ATHLETES “If you have a body, you are an athlete.” – Bill Bowerman Legendary UO track coach and NIKE co-founder One of my favorite quote these days! I want all students to know that they have “athletic” ability. Your body was created to move!

  9. What does a typical class look like? LOCKER ROOM(Students have 5 minutes to dress down and report to the main gym after the tardy bell rings) Class Warm-up (6-8 min) Ex: Game, dance, indiv., partner, group task Roll Lines + Warm-Up Plus (10-12 min) Health-Related Fitness (10-20 min) Ex: Intervals, circuits, stations, task cards Game/Activity/Sport/Choice (15-25 min) Cool-down/Clean-up/Discussion (3-5 min) LOCKER ROOM (7 min)

  10. How will students be graded? Daily Class Participation (60%) Evaluated on a 5-point scale Skill Assessment (20%) Fitness Testing, Personal Fitness Project Written Assessment (20%) Goal-Setting, Quizzes, Assignments

  11. What are class expectations? Follow directions Be respectful to teacher, classmates, equipment, facilities, etc. Do YOUR best!

  12. ABSENCES If you are absent, please have your parents/guardians call the attendance office to excuse your absence. Only students with excused absences will be allowed to complete a PE make-up to redeem class participation points (form is located on my teacher website).

  13. DRESSING DOWN Appropriate clothes T-shirt, shorts, sweats, sweatshirts, shoes with laces TIED A Non-Dress is NOT figured in to your class grade BUT... you will receive a lunch detention for chronic non-dressing 2 “freebies” per quarter Non-Dress = still participate in class

  14. ILLNESS or INJURY MUST have a note (from parent or physician) to excuse you from activity. Please let me know what you CAN do, not what you CAN'T. Please avoid NO PE notes. If the illness/injury is more than 2 class periods, a doctor's/physical therapist note is required.

  15. NON-PARTICIPATION If a student chooses to sit out... He/she may NOT make-up class participation points. If a student has a written note/email from parents... He/she may complete a PE make-up to earn class points. Doctor's note... You are excused from activity.

  16. Phones & Electronic Devices NO Please store in your purse, backpack, or PE locker.

  17. FOOD, DRINK, or GUM NO

  18. Leaving the Assigned Area NO

  19. Anything FUN about this class? YES At least I hope so!

  21. What you can expect from me as a teacher... – I will have you MOVE everyday! – I will have you manage yourself and show responsibility. – “If something is worth doing, it's worth doing well.” • You will hear me say this A LOT! – I will encourage you to try new things, expand your comfort zone. – I hope that you have fun (I hope!).
