RT/CASS Lessons Learned • Drawing changes: • Any updates require drawing changes • These changes must reflect in the LIRS inventory • Latest elevation and electrical DWG also included • Transportation: • Air ride truck is essential to satisfactory delivery • “Chains Only” are ideal as straps cause cosmetic as well as (potential) damage to SOMF wall hatches and openings • Verify contacts at the other end and provide drivers with any pertinent info
AECTS Background • AECTS (Aircraft Engine Component Test Stand) is a stand alone MF complex made of a SOMF A and SOMF B • Configurations VD-05 and VD-06 are for rotary wing maintenance • Configuration VD-07 and VD-08 are for fixed wing maintenance
Issue • Two output connectors (P/N: MS90555-52-4-12S) on the secondary side of the transformer end connectors (P/N: MS90556-52-4-13S and MS90557-52-4-13P) of the two 480vac output cables, and two input receptacles (P/N: MS90558-52-4-12P) on the power input panel of the SOMF A configuration VD-05 or VD-07 are all the regular 200a 120/208vac connectors.
Risk • Possibility of inadvertently distributing 480vac power from the secondary side of the transformer to other MFs in the complex with 200a input connector or • Providing 120/208vac 200a power from any pop-up to the VD-05 or VD-07 MF
Solution • Replace all 120/208vac connectors on the secondary side of the transformer end connectors on the two output cables, and the two power input connectors on the VD-05 and VD-06 with 480vac connectors.

Servo-cylinder Test Station (STS) -1011 • Calibration Standards will be provided by the FRCSW and be on-site upon installation Team’s Arrival. Problem: ECU Hatch Loss • ECU door plug loss can cause catastrophic results on U.S. highways and byways when uncontrolled exiting during transport • ECU hatch covers are secured by a dog latch that catches approximately one inch of the MF sidewall. these latches are further compromised with age: Hatch fit and gasket deterioration/tightening issues
ECU Hatch Loss: Solution • “C” clamp bolted into dog latch receiver plate – See previous illustration • A one inch thick wooden slat/ board can be dropped in across the ECU dog latch (handles) and secured in place by nailing side blocks to keep dog handles from moving
Mobile Facilities Wash Contract Efficacy • Mobile Facility upkeep can be a labor intensive, never ending maintenance challenge. • Avionics trained Marines have been assigned to wash and perform corrosion prevention and control to the mobile facilities complex on a continuous basis. • Marines are normally assigned to this task in teams for a period of 30 to 120 days. When performing this task for that duration, these Marines usually lost a step or two in their MOS expertise.
Mobile Facilities Wash Contract Efficacy • Where corrosion is prevalent such as Hawaii, coastal California, and the Far East the problem is exacerbated. • Implementation of outsourced wash and corrosion control contracts through the x-50 work center has ushered in era of I-level aviation Marines being utilized in their designed function: Aircraft maintenance, or freeing them up to perform Transition Task Force duties in Iraq and Afghanistan while markedly improving the material condition and extending the service life of the mobile facilities.
