  2. What is Word Processing? •Using a computer to create, edit, and print documents. Of all computer applications, word processing is the most common. To perform word processing, you need a computer, a special program called a word processor, and a printer. A word processor enables you to create a document, store it electronically on a disk, display it on a screen, modify it by entering commands and characters from the keyboard, and print it on a printer •Word processing programs are no longer limited to simple text writing, they have sophisticated features that allow users to create professional- looking documents.

  5. Capabilities  •Formatting *Text size, case, and emphasis *Header/footer *Hyperlinks *Dictionary/thesaurus *Spelling check

Specialized Word Processors •Text-to-Speech- offers the choice to read the text displayed within the document •Word prediction- presents the user with possible choices that can be inserted into a word processing document with one key stroke or mouse click •Rebus- base word processor- A picture or symbol that is used in place of or to describe a written word. •Speech recognition-  a feature provided by the system and word processing tools

  7. Portable Processors The problem sometimes experienced by teachers is not how adapt word processors for students use, but getting enough access to word processors for all students to use effectively. Portable processors/ keyboards can be an effective solution to the lack of adequate computers for word processing instruction use.
