  2. Philosophy To adequately prepare our students to meet the demands of a globalised and multilingual society by increasing their linguistic competence and socio- cultural awareness.

  3. OBJECTIVES • develop an awareness and tolerance of, and an appreciation for the culture of Spanish-speaking societies;

  4. OBJECTIVES • develop an attitude to Spanish as a medium of communication in real-life situations;

  5. OBJECTIVES develop the disposition and confidence to use the language to communicate;

  6. OBJECTIVES improve speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills;

  7. OBJECTIVES master the Spanish grammar system in order to use the language to express personal meanings;

  8. OBJECTIVES to enjoy the experience of learning Spanish!

  9. FOCUS ONCOMMUNICATION Questions will reflect a more holistic and communicative approach to the use of the language.

  10. FOCUS ONCOMMUNICATION Questions will be set from a thematic perspective, thus reflecting students’ daily lives and interaction.

  11. FOCUS ONCOMMUNICATION Grammar and vocabulary items are therefore not assessed in isolation and in non- meaningfulcontexts.

  14. THEMES • Students at the 6th form and tertiary levels will be exposed to the above mentioned themes, as well as those which are reflected in units 1 and 2 of the CAPE syllabus.

  20. QUESTIONS Questions from each theme will reflect the following categories: • Antonyms and synonyms • Sentence/Proverbs completion • Math • Culture • Proverbs –explain or give equivalent in English.

  23. USE OF TECHNOLOGY AND OTHER INSTRUCTIONAL AIDS • Audio visual questions may be set and facilitated by the use of DVD clips, music, photos, realia, etc.

  31. Submission of Questions • Each school must submit 100 (50 pairs) matching questions for each category that they enter.

  32. Submission of Questions Questions should be submitted according to themes.

  33. Submission of Questions • Questions should be submitted in the form of written matches- NOT RANDOMLY. • AN ANSWER MUST BE PROVIDED.

  34. Vetting of Questions • Questions submitted will be vetted by the Quiz Committee- an independent body of Spanish language specialists. • Questions that are to be edited will be returned to the writers/ teachers so that they can be amended and re-sent. This has to be done to ensure the corresponding school’s participation in the competition.
