  2. CENELEC TC215 WG3 (EN 50600 series) • Name of organisation and associated bodies • CENELEC Technical Committee TC215 • “Electrotechnical Aspects of Telecommunication Equipment” • WG3 • “Facilities and infrastructures” • Description of what this organisation is addressing • First project: EN 50600 • Addressing the design of data centre facilities and infrastructures based on the following critieria • Availability • Physical security • Energy efficiency enablement • Providing the infrastructure necessary to measure, report and control the energy efficiency of a data centre addressing: • Building construction • Power distribution • Environmental control • Telecommunications cabling infrastructure • Security • Management and operational information • Who are the consumers • Designers and operators of data centres?

  3. CENELEC TC215 WG3 (EN 50600 series) • Taxonomy, terms, definitions and metrics used and introduced. • Data centres adopt the widest possible definition • No restriction on size • No restriction on purpose/business model • No metrics used – the purpose of the EN 50600 series is to provide an infrastructure that enables the measurement and control of energy consumption and related parameters within a data centre, not how the data should be used (this matches the proposals being submitted by CENELEC BT WG 132-3) • Standards (certification) being proposed, developed or suggested. Current Standards • Planned delivery 2011 • Standards structure shown of the next slide

  4. EN 50600-1 General concepts EN 50600-2-1 Building construction EN 50600-2-2 Power distribution EN 50600-2-3 Environmental control Annex A Risk assessment Annex B General design principles EN 50600-2-4 Telecomm’s cabling infrastructure Annex C Measurement methodologies, test procedures and report formats EN 50600-2-5 Security systems EN 50600-2-6 Management and operational information DATA CENTRE CLASSIFICATION • availability • security • energy efficiency enablement CENELEC TC215 WG3 (EN 50600 series)

  5. CENELEC TC215 WG3 (EN 50600 series) • How does this relate to the scope of EEDC • The objective of EN 50600 series documents is to ensure that future data centres have the capacity to measure, control and monitor energy usage.

  6. CENELEC TC215 WG3 (EN 50600 series) • Source material, references. • First drafts of EN 50600 series will be circulated Q4, 2010
