  2. Supplies • Serving size was as follows based upon a six serving day. (125 calorie servings) • Six crackers or biscuits if its from a 5 gallon can • Four crackers or biscuits if its from a 2.5 gallon can • One and a half wafers from a 5 gallon container • Four wafers and two hard candy carbohydrate supplements. • Three crackers or biscuits from a 2.5 gallon container with two carbohydrate hard candy supplement • One wafer from a 5 gallon container and two carbohydrate hard candies. (based on a six servings per day schedule.)

  3. Supplies Continued • Each person had 3 ½ gallons of water for a two week stay. • 1 quart per day per person • There needs to be batteries for battery operated radios • Water needs to be pure because fallout will contaminate it.

  4. Is Your Shelter A Fallout Shelter? • The basic fallout shelter consists of shields that can block radiation or gamma rays. • Materials include 1 cm thick lead, 2.4 inches of concrete,

  5. Is Your Shelter A Fallout Shelter • The climate for a fallout shelter is important. • Dry earth is a good insulator but over the course of a few weeks it becomes too hot. • The easiest and most efficient way to cool of is to have a heavy frame with open flaps that opens in one direction and closes in another. • This should hang from the ceiling. • Attach a rope and take turns swinging it

  6. Is Your Shelter A Fallout Shelter • You can consider unfiltered air safe due to the fact that the fallout has the consistency of sand or finely ground pumice. Such large particles are not easily ingested into the soft tissues of the body, so extensive filters are not required. • Exposure to fine dust is less harmful than exposure to the gamma from outside the fallout shelter.

  7. Types of fallout shelters • There are two types of fallout shelters, public and private shelters. • During the cold war dozens of these shelters were made in the basements of buildings and in the country side. • The point of a public shelter was to house dozens of people for the required amount of time that it took for the fallout to be at a safe enough level to leave.

  8. Types of fallout shelters Continued • The amount of time to drop levels safe enough was said to be two weeks. • Most of the bunkers now have been turned into museums. • Private shelters are the same but only house a small group of people or a family.

  9. Fallout shelter Bathrooms • People who were stuck in a fallout shelter had to find a place to keep waste. • This was then carried outside after it was safe enough to leave (atleast two weeks)

  10. Entertainment • The only way to stay sane in a fallout shelter is by playing board games and reading books and anything without the use of actual technology. • A well known game was Avalon Hills Third Reich. • This game was about making decisions on where to go, when to go, and how to allocate rescources. • Public Fall-out Shelters
