  2. Nickname and Region • Nebraska has a very funny nickname. Its nickname is the Beef State. The region is the Midwest.

  3. Capital City, Major City, and population • The Capital City is Lincoln. There are three major cities. Here are there names. • Norfolk • Ferment and • Grand Island. Every state has a population. Nebraska’s population is 1,842,641.

  4. State flag, State Bird and State Tree • The state bird is called the Western Meadowlark. The state tree is called the cottonwood.

  5. Nebraska’s current governor is Dave Heinemann • Nebraska’s current senators are Ben Nelson and Mike Johnsons The Government

  6. Borders And Geography • Nebraska has 6 borders. South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri and Iowa. They have the chimney rock, deserts and sand hills.

  7. Agriculture/Farming • Later improvements in irrigation made it easier for farmers to water their crops. Farms were able to expand into new areas of Nebraska that before wouldn’t sustain crops.

  8. History • Nebraska became a state in 1867. • By 1864 Nebraska’s population had boomed to almost 123,000 people. It used to be 1,842,641 • The First Arbor day was celebrated in 1872 . • Buffalo Bill Cody started the first rodeo show in North Platte in 1882.

  9. Colleges/ Universities and places to visit • Nebraska's Best colleges are the cornhuskers. In Nebraska their best places to visit is in the town of belleve you can go to a furtrading in arbor lodge you can see 270 speices of trees and shrubs.

Additional Facts .The legislate passed a law in 1877 providing state funds to support public libraries. .The Nebraska state historical society maintains a museum in Lincoln . .The Nebraska library commission was set up in 1901. .After the Lewis and Clark expedition people began passing through Nebraska on trails going west . Every year thousand of Nebraska highways follow the historic Oregon and Mormon trails. .The university of Nebraska state museum in Lincoln has one of the largest collections of mammal fossils.
